I remember the first time I learned how to draw was because I couldn't afford paper dolls. So I borrowed a friend's set of paper dolls and clothings and copied the designs into sheets of paper. I would then cut the ones I drew and played with them heartily.
Do I have artistic skills? Some people say I do but I was surrounded with far more artistic friends that I never really saw myself as an artist. Although, I have come to believe that each one of us is an artist with our own unique art style.
At some point, having skills in Photoshop and vector graphics became very useful to me when I started making games. I also realized that shapes weren't only used for art's sake. They can also become a great tool in organizing and presenting information.
Do I still draw? Definitely! Art is therapeutic and I often find myself doodling when I'm bored, sad, or excited. Am I an artist by profession? No. But I do use my skills in other areas like game development or ideation.
